A MUST TO VISIT FOR ALL THE GOURMET LOVERS

Tansen: The opening of a new restaurant has always been a source of joy and pride for me.  From discussion to blueprint to reality is a journey that words cannot capture.  Music and cuisine have been two things from which I derive immense joy.  This restaurant, Tansen, is a fusion of both.  I see it as a jugalbandi, where the ambience, cuisine and music all form a single experience that you will not just enjoy in the restaurant but will also carry home.  Like it is said, “Go ahead and let nothing disturb the experience”.

The Legend of Tansen: Tansen was born in the village Behat near Gwalior.  A gifted vocalist and instrumentalist in the Hindustani Classical tradition, he is known for many compositions popularizing the rabab (of Central Asian origin).  He was noted for his imitations of animal calls and bird songs.  History records that with his music he tamed an elephant that went wild.  Another legend has it that he had composed and sung the Deepak Raga (which caused the temperature to soar) along with his student, Rupa, who sang the Megh Raga (which caused rains), thus balancing the effects of both the ragas.  He was among the Navaratnas (nine jewels) at the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, who gave him the title Miyan - a title that today is the name of some ragas that belong to Tansen like Miyan ki Todi, Miyan ka Malhar, Miyan ki Mand and Miyan ka Sarang.
